Dazzles of zebras graze
beside a thunder of elephants.
Towers of giraffes
keep watch for hungry lions
as the light of day recedes.
Dinner time on the Savannah
Four male lions continue their work
eviscerating a felled hippo
They lick their bloody lips as
vultures await their turn at the
all-you-can-eat buffet.
Thorny acacia trees stand sentry
over the endless plains
as golden grasses sway, and
holographic clouds
hang in the luminous sky
like furrowed eyebrows
We are visitors here
Gawking from our dusty jeeps,
Witnesses with zoom lenses.
Inconsequential
to life on these endless plains
and, in the end, the planet we call ours.
